Beltane: Awakening
Almost all secrets of the holiday from
Liv the Springborn
Greetings! I am Liv the Springborn, the spirit of Beltane, here in my splendid mortal guise. Well… it's mostly splendid. If you only knew how much maintenance this fiery mane requires… But I digress –
let's get down to business.
I was sent to your world by the Alfar to teach you how to celebrate Beltane properly. Now, you might be wondering how the radiant ones and this holiday are connected. Well, they're the ones who created it in the first place!

The Alfar wanted people to celebrate the sun and life on this day. But, over time, the true meaning of the holiday has been forgotten. Some even
think of Beltane as nothing more than an excuse for hard drinking and even harder brawling. Now, don't get me wrong, a bit of ruckus can be fun, but Beltane deserves much more than that.

So, here are a few tips on how to celebrate so splendidly that
you'll remember it all year long.
The symbol of Beltane is fire, so be sure to light a bonfire! I bet your thoughts immediately went to roasting wild boar kebabs or grilling mushrooms, right? Splendid! Stock up on food, call your friends, and have a picnic. There's an old saying about Beltane: if an abundant feast adorns your table, gifts of fate
are sure to follow. And they don't, well, your hungry friends will thank you,
at least!

Another tradition is the maypole. Find a tall tree that doesn't have too many branches. A pine would be a splendid choice. If there aren't any pines around, don't despair – just find a sturdy wooden post. Top it with a wreath made of ribbons and daisies, and leave offerings to the Alfar and spirits underneath. *Whispers* Speaking of offerings – I'm personally quite partial to cheesy French fries. Just saying!

And since we're talking about treats, here's a nice little recipe: bake a big oat flour pie for Beltane, slice it into an odd number of pieces, and mark one slice with a bit of charcoal underneath. The person who gets that slice has to jump over the bonfire three times. If they're brave enough to do so, fortune will be on their side for the entire year.
As for me, I'm planning to jump over bonfires to my heart's content and visit friends for breakfast, lunch, and dinner… There isn't really anything to keep you entertained in the spirit world, so I'll have fun among mortals instead. What's more, the Alfar have tasked me with bestowing gifts upon Jarls who do the best job of celebrating Beltane. What must you do to earn such gifts, you ask? Well, I've already dropped a hint, but don't worry – it'll all
be explained in due time.

And now, my dear Jarls, it's time for me to fade into the spring haze. But fear not – I shall return!

Beltane is all about bonfires, maypoles, oatmeal pies, and other ways of having fun. And it also involves lots of contests and giveaways, of course!
